Faculty Herald Editor Job Announcement/Description:

Working with the Faculty Herald Advisory Board (FHAB) and appointed by the Faculty Senate Steering Committee (FSSC), the Faculty Herald editor is responsible for soliciting and writing content, editing, layout and publishing no less than two editions of the Faculty Herald for each of the fall and spring semesters.

Duties include:

  1. Soliciting articles from various faculty and administrators on topics of interest to the academic community.
  2. Interviewing Temple stakeholders and surrounding community on topics of interest.
  3. Overseeing content and writing articles.
  4. Documenting newsworthy events at Temple, especially those which may be of interest to future scholars. If necessary, prepare special editions to document such events if they occur during the summer semesters.
  5. Writing editorials for each edition.
  6. Gathering, editing, and laying out each edition in PDF and other formats for digital publication.
  7. Ensuring that editions are also published on social media platforms.
  8. Collaborating with the Temple library to facilitate accessing and digitizing past editions.
  9. Working with the FHAB to identify ways to improve distribution and effectiveness of the Faculty Herald.

Successful candidates should have media/communications experience and technical skills for publication layout/design. Additional experience in maintaining social media platforms desirable.

Length of appointment: Renewable 2-year appointments. Compensation: A yearly stipend of $8000.
